For our music video we felt that the costumes we wore had to be very similar to what the artist, Mac Miller stereotypes; which is a young, reckless teenager. Mac Miller is often seen in his videos wearing either a Snapback hat, a Beanie hat or a pair of sunglasses (usually Raybans). The main reason we chose to dress our characters like this was because we want to show the viewers audience identification. This is important towards our target audience as we want them to relate to his style of dressing. Our target audience is people in their late teen years and the outfits that our characters are wearing is to them seen as "cool".
In the music video we are all dressed very similarly and are all wearing some sort of hat and glasses. The connotations of wearing a Snapback hat, a Beanie hat and Rayban glasses are that they are a stereotype of what a person of their late teens would wear as an accessorize. Other then the hats and glasses, we thought that the other costumes needed for the characters had to be casual, for example jeans and a jumper. The reason for this being that our song choice doesn't have a storyline to it so there is no need for any meaning towards the choice of clothes.
As our song we chose is very 'random' and doesn't really have a storyline to it, the props we used had to be very random as well; to make the music video interesting to watch. For example one bit of main mise-en-scene used in our music video was a sofa in a field, surrounded by cows. This is very odd as in a normal music video a stereotype would not expect to see a sofa in a field. Another example one prop we used was James' laptop to show the use of technology in an unusual environment. We felt that we couldn't have just two people sitting on a sofa in a field as it could seem boring or pointless, so if we added a laptop into the shot then it could seem it more unusual then before. It is almost like they're having a casual day in what a person would think to be a living room, but instead it is outside in a field.
