Ancillary Task- Kanye West Digipak Analysis

Kanye West’s album Love Lockdown is in the same genre as the music that we have chosen but it shows a contrast as this album is white and plain. This is the colour of purity which is unusual to have on a Hip-Hop digipak as traditionally they have bright colours and are very eye catching. This is due to the fact that Hip-Hop artists like to show dominance and like the idea of being the top of the social ladder and like the idea that people look up too them. Kanyes digipak is different to ours as ours goes with the stereotypical digipak.

Kanye West is wearing a suit and glasses which also goes against the stereotype of the Hip-Hop genre. This fits in with the brand that Kanye West is trying to get across to the viewer. The heart on the right hand side fits together with the other side of the blog. The way that Kanye is standing, it’s almost as if he is shying away, which also goes against the Hip-Hop genre. The stereotypical Hip-Hop artist is aggressive and arrogant, which further shows that Kanye is creating his own unique image.
The front cover has the same picture as the inside does, which is good as it continues with the theme but with the lack of pictures the public could see the digipak as being boring and unappealing. Album sales could then be affected as it would not catch the viewer’s eye but this is the risk Kanye would have taken in order to keep with his image.

The art on the digipak hints at him having a broken heart in a previous relationship. The red heart not only stands out with the white background but it portrays a broken heart as it looks like it is scrunched up and leaking. This could also link to Kayne's posture.
