Mac Miller
Mac Miller is an American rapper from Pittsburgh and was born January 19th 1992. Previous to his career, he was a member of a rap group called 'The 3 Spoken'. When he turned 18 he was signed to the record label 'Rostrum Records', he then released his first mix tape named 'K.I.D.S'(Kickin Incredibly Dope Shit) in 2010. He is still only an independent artist with a local record label. Although he has seen a mass proliferation in his fan base due to his use of social networking to communicate with fans. He allowed this by making his fans feel that they were a large part in why he has began to be a successful artist which is very true.
Mac creates music to appeal to a wide variety of audiences to bring different kinds of people together to enjoy. He recently had an interview with magazine XXL Freshman league and this is what he had to say. "My overall goal is to be able to speak and connect with the world. It’s a pretty big goal to set for myself, but with what I’m seeing right now and the path that I’m going on, I think that I can do it because I have experience with all different backgrounds and genres of music. I’m trying to have it where your straight trap dudes are listening to my music, as well as your straight hip-hop heads and people who listen to the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin, and the Sex Pistols." This shows how he is trying to broadcast his music to a huge audience.
His release of his Album 'Best day ever' in 2011 created a large hype globally to anyone who knew of or listened to Mac Miller. This also kick started his tour 'Incredibly Dope Tour' which was held in the U.S. but also due to popular demand he also toured in Europe in September. We went to see him live on September the 1st at Shepards Bush to gain more understanding of Mac and his music. He has also got his new album 'Blue Slide Park' due to be released on November 8th 2011 which is already on the top charts of iTunes without even being released!
His record label 'Rostrum Records' is an independent label founded in 2003 by Benjy Grinberg in Pittsburgh which mainly signs hip hop/rap artists.
