Evaluation of AS Blog

When looking back at my Year 12 blog, I can now identify what parts (as a group) we could have improved and parts I felt went really well. One thing I thought that went right within the blog was the layout of the posts. In our blog the layout was not the same throughout  the whole thing, we made sure that the posts were not too much writing and had plenty of photos to make the the blog more excitable to view. Furthermore, we added a few videos and PowerPoint's just to change it up from just having consistent writing. However a bad point to having all of these different layouts of posts was that where as James was editing the majority of our thriller film his blogs were not up to the higher standard of Nathan's and my self's blogs; the reason being that he did not have the required time needed to improve them. To resolve this problem Nathan and I had to take more of our available time to edit some of James' blogs to make them of a better quality; making less spelling mistakes and increasing the quantity of writing.

One thing that was a great strength to our group was the camera equipment and the editing software we had. This was because James' hobby is all about media; meaning that he is very interested in taking videos of a home camera he had brought and to make these videos he had to have his own editing software at home, which he had purchased also. Another reason on why this was a big strength of our group was that other groups in school had to do all of the editing in school and quite often the computers were not available for use. Also, other groups would have to wait for a acquirable camera but much like the computers; they were too already rented out for the day by another media group. Fortunately for us we could use the camera and editing software wherever and whenever we wished. However, one weakness about us having our own equipment was that often Nathan and myself did not know how to work the camera as it was much different to the school's cameras. This became a problem for when James had to drive his car and I had to film Nathan walking as we drove by, to make a flashback shot possible. Where I had never recorded on a camera before I kept missing this shot, meaning that we had to keep re-shooting the same clip; taking a lot of valuable time.

Another strength of ours was that we had the use of James' car, this became essential to our group for a few reasons. The first reason being that our group live in completely different areas so it would've been extremely hard to get to recording locations. Where James had a car we arranged to meet at school and then James would drive us to the recording locations so it meant that travel was not a problem for us.  More on the point of our strength of having a car, with the helpfulness of having a car it meant that we had much longer time to record our thriller clips because we got there early so we had more time to plan and re-shoot the clip if it didn't look good enough quality. However, the other groups in media did not have the use of a car; as not many people in our year had passed their driving tests at the time of recording our thriller videos, therefore meaning that they had to either record more locally or find an alternate way of getting to locations.

Areas For Improvement
If we are going to improve our coursework this year and try our best to get the highest mark possible there are going to be a few things we need to change. One being that we need to plan more for certain days where we can all record and organise who is doing which blogs. It will be essential for us to organise all of this as if we don't we could find ourselves falling behind or with the blogs for example, if we feel as a group that a certain people are better at certain things e.g. James is far more creative at PowerPoint's than me so he will do the PowerPoint and i would do the longer writing blog.

Another thing that will need to be improved is our commitment to do work outside of school, last year this became a problem to us as it came to the deadline and we still had a few essential blogs in need of being completed. This was due to us leaving it all to the last moment thinking we could all get it done in school when there wasn't enough time in school to complete them.

Overview
In this year of coursework i believe that we can get a higher grade and making the blogs of a much higher standard than last year. This year we have chosen to go with two new friends of ours; Jack and Pearce. I feel this is more of an advantage as we are all good friends so we can easily arrange to meet up and discuss our plans of action for the recording and blog posting. Also, we are all very much more determined this year as it is our last year of school so it will motivate us more to get all of the work done as it is our last chance of doing the coursework.
